Common Sense? We dont teach that

So I'm home from work today because my son got sent home for fighting. That's the phone call I get while standing on my bosses office. So I get to the school to retrieve him and sit to hear the recap of what happened. My 8th grade son and two of his friends were fooling around and "pretend" fighting with each other. That got them sent home for the day. "It could have escalated into a real fight, someone could have gotten hurt for real, and the school could have been sued" those are the exact words from the assistant principle.

This isn' t the first encounter with the school. Oh no, I am "that" parent of "that" kid. The kid who gets in trouble for doing the stupid things. The class clown, he's not mean spirited or a danger but reacts before thinking it through. I'm not one of those parents who thinks that my kid never does anything wrong - I know he's bad.

After stating all of this upfront....are you kidding me people. Seriously, where has common sense gone??? Every time I get a call from the middle school I loose 20 IQ points, "Mrs. Z (when I'm remarried and my name is Mrs. W now - thanks for knowing who you are talking to before you call) your son was hugging his girlfriend and there is no PDA allowed in school so you'll have to pick him up". Zero tolerance for anything which does not teach our children to use common sense. If my son and his friends are fooling around then make them clean up the lunch room.
